Maker’s Tip #8: Natural Homemade Laundry Detergent

Are you living a life where you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place — the rock being the high prices of natural laundry detergents, and the hard place being all the gross chemicals in commercial detergents? (Very specific, I know, but sometimes that happens in life…)

Well it’s time to free yourself from this conundrum and make your own natural laundry detergent!

Top three advantages of making your own detergent:

  1. WAY cheaper than regular detergent
  2. Free of nasty chemicals like fragrances, stabilizers, and fragrances
  3. It’s easy to make!

So here’s that recipe!

2 parts borax

2 parts washing soda

1 part grated soap

First, grate up the soap by hand or with a food processor. Mix it thoroughly with the powders, and step three, oh wait, that’s it, you’re done.

I usually do 1 bar of soap with 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of washing soda. The proportions work out roughly.
